Quilts from Traditional Blocks
A series about traditional favourites in quilts.
Modern traditional quilt using Grandmother's Fan and Simple Star blocks
Are you a traditionalist? Or do prefer modern quilts?
This series aims to show you that traditional quilts can be both traditional and modern.
I will show you a traditional patchwork block design, explain how it is made, and show you some quilt layouts using the block. There are PDF downloads for you of foundation patterns, rotary cutting instructions or templates.
Bear's Paw Designs
Bear's Paw
A true favourite! Bear's Paw is a wonderful old traditional patchwork block. I hope you try some of these styles in your own work. I have loved this pattern since I was first aware of patchwork quilts.
Birds in the Air Designs
Birds in the Air
A time-honoured pattern and a perennial favourite of quilters worldwide. Traditionally the block is coloured from two fabrics: one light, one dark. Other versions are calico with scraps.
Bow Tie Quilts
Bow Tie Quilts
A time honoured favourite. This traditional block is pieced using 'set-in' piecing, meaning that the little square in the centre has to be set into the other patches as it doesn't intersect like straight line piecing.
